“People came down from London to see her that day”
Derek Still

September 2004 - Tonbridge High Street

After winning double gold in the Athens Olympics, just a few weeks before Dame Kelly Holmes enjoyed a heroes welcome to Tonbridge. It began with an open top bus parade that started from her childhood home in Hildenborough, before making its way round the village and into Tonbridge before ending with a presentation on the castle lawn. Derek Still, who was Deputy Mayor at the time was one of the dignitaries aboard the bus that afternoon. Listen to him share some moments from that day, along with some other highlights from his time in office, followed by Anne Clement and James Pavlou of Walk Tonbridge recall their memories of the parade.
